Privacy policy

Effective

The short version: we use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, and we collect what you type into our contact and sponsorship forms. We don't ask for health information, we don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

Who we are

heartattack101.com ("Heart Attack 101," "we," "us") is a free educational website run by an individual. It is not currently sponsored by, or affiliated with, any person or entity. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site and what we do with it.

What we collect

Collected automatically

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: pages viewed, time on page, how far you scroll, which links you click to leave the site, the site that sent you here, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (such as city or region), which Google estimates from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses.
  • Hosting. Our host, Netlify, receives standard request data, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
  • Fonts. The site's fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser information when a page loads.

Information you give us

  • Sponsorship form. If you send a sponsorship inquiry, we collect your name, email address, organization, website, the kind of sponsorship and budget you choose, and your message. Netlify Forms processes and stores the submission for us and emails it to us.
  • Contact form. If you send us a message, we collect your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. Netlify Forms processes and stores it for us and forwards it to us so we can reply.

What we don't collect

We don't ask for health information, and the site has no accounts or sign-ins. The CPR practice beat and the live counter run in your browser, and we don't record how you use them.

A note on health-related browsing

Reading a health website can say something personal about you. We use analytics only to see overall trends, such as which sections people read most. We don't try to identify individual visitors, we don't combine analytics with other information about you, and we don't use Google Analytics' advertising features.

How we use information

  • To run, secure and improve the site.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which content helps people.
  • To reply to messages and sponsorship inquiries, and to manage sponsorships.
  • To comply with the law.

How we share it

We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We share it only with service providers that run the site for us: Netlify (hosting and forms), Google (analytics and fonts), and the email service we use to reply to you. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or transfer of the site.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) to tell visits apart. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works fine without them.

How long we keep it

  • Google Analytics: detailed data is kept for no more than 14 months.
  • Contact messages and sponsorship inquiries: as long as needed to reply and handle your request or sponsorship, then deleted.
  • Hosting records: according to Netlify's own retention practices.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we have about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to opt out of certain uses. We'll honor these requests no matter where you live. Send your request through our contact form and choose "Privacy request." We may need to confirm your identity first. We won't treat you differently for making a request.

Children

The site is for a general audience and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Links to other sites

We link to organizations such as the American Heart Association and the CDC. Their sites have their own privacy policies, which apply when you visit them.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and we use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold. No website can promise perfect security.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the effective date at the top.
